Omoregie, who works with an old generation bank located on Airport road in Benin City, Edo state, was arrested for allegedly defrauding Mrs Kadiri, who is the wife of an aide to Governor Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday, January 19.
When apprehended, the suspect was said to have confessed to the fraud and blamed it on a “spiritual attack”. Omoregie was said to have convinced her victim, whose husband is the special adviser on security to Governor Oshiomhole, to put about N15 million in a fixed deposit, telling her she could enjoy a profit on a monthly basis.
The suspect convinced Mrs Kadiri that her money could be accessed whenever she needed it. The alleged scam was uncovered when Mrs Kadiri demanded access to her money, and she was told that the money had been lent out to the bank’s cooperative society, which left her suspicious.
It was allegedly discovered that the bank did not run a cooperative society, leaving the money missing without a trace after Omoregie had handed in her resignation to the bank.
