Nigerian graduates are well trained and employable but there are no jobs for them, says Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), Professor Michael Adikwu.
Speaking at a forum of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), held in Abuja, Adikwu said the problem is not the quality of graduates but the availability of jobs.
“They say well our graduates are not employable, that’s not true; the issue is that there are no jobs,” he said.
“So, the issue is not that they have not been taught; they have been taught.”
According to him, graduates are supposed to acquire the practical aspects of their training on the job.
But the jobs are not there for them.
“Most things people do are learnt on the job and not in the classroom.
“No doctor will tell you that he or she became a surgeon in the classroom; you do the theory and then the practical in the field.”
